The Road to Enlightenment

about Me

random reflections...

Jesus said not to lay down any laws beyond what He has given us because it would only serve to constrain us. And it has. Our manmade parameters have taken our attention from the true meaning of worship. We were robbed of the true Mystery, Baptism, Chrism, Eucharist, Redemption and Bridal Chamber. These ancient sacraments were replaced by the likes of little crackers and cups of wine.

I have heard "talking to God" referred to as "having an imaginary friend". It saddens me to think about these people who have been robbed of a truly amazing experience. But I understand why they feel that way.

I was baptized in a typical non-denominational church ceremony where I was immersed in water. Afterwards, I felt no different except that I was wet. When I was baptized (cleansed/initiated) by Jesus (Sardis or level 2) it was very different. This is the REAL baptism. No water was involved.

It is impossible to put it into human terms, but I got my innocence back. I was absolved of every sin I had ever committed. My eyes were opened to things I had never been able to see before. I did not ask for it nor did I expect it, but it happened. It was very real and very tangible. And the coolest part is that no one can ever take it away from me and no one can ever tell me that I am wrong.

But, you can see my dilemma. Knowing the absolute truth about baptism makes it impossible for me to believe that clever little myth about John the Baptist. I understand that this was an allegory for the real thing; however, people believe that this is the real thing and they stop seeking. So while the ceremony in itself is harmless, it leads us to a false conclusion.

I believe that the vengeful "god" of the old testament is not the true God. The first piece of proof lies within the ten commandments when he says, "I am a jealous God and you shall have no other Gods before me." Jealous of what? Why would God be jealous? It makes no sense! If he were the only one he would have had no occassion to say that.

Jesus told me that the Pharisees and the scribes stole the keys to knowledge, barring entrance to the common man, thereby barring entrance for themselves.

The discovery and translation of the Nag Hammadi Library has provided us a wealth of new information that simply cannot be ignored. The strange thing about these texts is that main stream christianity tends to reject them. These codices were found in the same vicinity as some of our so called "canonical" scriptures. And since they were not found until 1945 and translation was not complete until the 70's, they have undergone virtually no revisions. To me, this tends to make them more credible than those left to the hands of the Pharisees and scribes.

For too long, we have been reading the scriptures out of context. Plucking text out of the story does not give us the whole picture. We need to start at Genesis and read the books in order. They mean so much more that way. Read the Old Testament and then the New Testament. Don't stop at Revelation. It is my contention that the Nag Hammadi Library IS the final testament. Read these books in order as well, beginning with The Prayer of The Apostle Paul, The Apocryphon of James and the Gospel of Truth. The Gospel of Truth is my favorite book. Keep on reading, mentally filling in the missing pieces. You will finish with The Gospel of Mary and The Act of Peter. Now you will understand.

When I asked God how high we could go He said, "Stand on what you can reach." I wish you much success on your Gnostic adventure. Please drop me an email so I can share your discoveries with other "seekers".

Peace to you and yours,

Amy
